Amendments to the CMGA bylaws

The two amendments adopted at the 2022 CMGA AGM are finally endorsed by Agriculture and Agrifood Canada (AAC).

The first amendment raises the age limit for junior membership to 21 to align with the age limit for participants in the youth classes at shows and to the CMGA Youth Funding Program.

The second amendment aligns the CMGA bylaws to what is exactly stated into the Animal Pedigree Act (APA) regarding the period sellers of registered goats have to transfert registration certificates to buyers. The CMGA bylaws were stating that the paperwork required for transferring an animal had to be sent to the registrar within 6 months of the sale. It was bringing confusion for the sellers and buyers because on the other hand, the APA requires that the certificate from transferred animals must be in the buyer’s hands within 6 months after the sale. The bylaws now read:

« In the case of the sale of an animal or the interest in an animal, the Animal Pedigree Act (APA) requires that all animals sold as registered stock must be officially transferred by the seller and the certificate of the registration presented to the purchaser within 6 months of the date of the sale. Unless otherwise agreed upon, the date of sale is the date the animal(s) is paid for in full. Failure to do so on any pretext whatsoever (except under written contract) shall be grounds for expulsion in the case of a member, or for refusal of registration or transfer in the case of a non-member. »
