Has anyone heard yet whether goats are required to have CFIA approved ear tags at shipping? I know there has been some discussion, but I don’t know if it is mandatory yet.
I recently received a monthly newsletter from the District 8 sheep association, and it stated that CFIA will be fining up to $500 for un-tagged animals at salebarns. I was unsure if this was relevant to goats.

Goats are not yet required to have tags, but the official tags are now available on a voluntary basis.

Only tags approved by CNGF and CFIA bearing the official number series and the Canada symbol will suffice for this purpose. These tags include: Reyflex Strip Tag (RT-3307), Reyflex Small Panel Tag (RT-3359), and Reflex RFID Tag (electronic). All of these tags can be ordered by contacting Ketchum Manufacturing directly either by phone, fax, email, or regular post. The contact details are:
